A publicly available Carbon Farm Plan (CFP) for The Maples Farm — the 30-acre headquarters of the Center for Land-Based Learning (CLBL) in Woodland, CA, developed in partnership with the Yolo Resource Conservation District and the Carbon Cycle Institute, completed June 2024. Described as an “aspirational, living document,” the plan evaluates all possible practices to sequester carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in plants and soil at the farm. Practices quantified include native plant hedgerows, a pollinator bioswale, compost application, cover cropping, and riparian restoration. Using the COMET Planner tool, the plan projects total sequestration potential of 298 metric tons of CO2e in year one and 4,727 MT CO2e over 20 years — equivalent to removing 1,052 gasoline-powered vehicles from the road for a year. The plan is made publicly available by CLBL as a replicable model to educate and inspire other Yolo County growers to develop their own Carbon Farm Plans.
