MacRostie is committed to using sustainable management practices on all their ranches, including at Thale’s Vineyard near Healdsburg. MacRostie has been implementing sustainable practices for several years, to best care for their land and resources, and to produce high quality grapes for their wine. MacRostie is certified sustainable by the California Sustainable Winegrowers Alliance. They worked with the Sonoma Resource Conservation District in 2020 to develop one of the first carbon farm plans for vineyards in the County. Through the process, they have increased their use of compost, maintained a strong cover crop program, reduced and eliminated tillage, trialed the use of mulch under the vines, and have implemented other beneficial practices. As of 2025, they have begun planning for native plant hedgerows to replace old landscaping in a sizable portion of their ranch. MacRostie is dedicated to continuously improving soil health and the overall management system throughout their vineyards.
