Balancing conservation practices with IPM: Honey bee conservation and ground squirrel management

Join us for a free in-person event with Boone Orchards!

We will hear from Russell Heitkam of Heitkam’s Honeybees and Brad Pankratz of Can-Am Apiaries, sharing the ongoing concerns associated with honeybee colony collapse, including impacts to stakeholders. Honey bees are not only an important pollinator service for almond producers but for an array of other fruit and vegetable crops in agriculture. We will cover conservation strategies associated with pollinator habitat enhancement to boost bee health.

Additionally, With over 15 years running his personal business, Doug Boone, a retired PCA, will share his many years of experience managing ground squirrel along with an overview of ground squirrel biology & behavioral characteristics.

We aim and encourage to have these topics pique the interest of growers, helping add to the conversation by openly participating with their questions, concerns and general curiosity.

  • Russell Heitkam – Heitkam’s Honey Bees; Board of Director, Project Apis m.
